With a little knowledge it can be done. Michael shows us how.
Michael working on the wiring of our shore power cord.
When we bought the boat we understood that the shore power cord was old and worn and would need to be replaced. We had checked to see how much this job would cost us. We got the quote and what made us pause and think of doing it ourself was that it could cost us approximately 13 hours of labor at $140.00/hr. that was going to be an expensive fix.
Again, lucky for us Michael has a good working knowledge of wiring and all things electrical. After all he started off in electrical engineering at Purdue University before segueing into Psychology. He also did a lot of the wiring in our home remodeling projects over the years.
After carefully considering his options he decided that he could replace the shore cable himself with my help passing him whatever tools he needed. I am that extra set of hands that make a job go more smoothly.
It took us the better part of a day to remove the old wire and replace it with the new wire. Patience, as with all things having to do with a boat, was required.
Michael did all the work on the wire and I was the “go-fer”. Check out the YouTube video below to see just how he did the job.
