Ice Cream! Ice Cream! We all scream for Ice Cream! A trip to Toft’s Ice Cream Parlor in Sandusky, Ohio

On our way to Sandusky, Ohio we stopped in at the locally famous Toft's Ice Cream Parlor for a cooling treat on a hot day. I ordered a small chocolate cone. Since I was having trouble with the ice cream melting the nice young man behind the counter gave me a cup to place the cone in to contain the run off along with a spoon and a bunch of napkins. Glad I ordered a small!

Holy Toledo! Look At Those Buns!

One evening in September we headed to Toledo to check out the restaurant that the character from M*A*S*H, Corporal Maxwell Klinger, made famous world wide. This restaurant was started during the Great Depression in 1932 and has been going on strong since then. Tony created the Hungarian hot dog by adding chili to enhance the flavor of the Hungarian sausage, Kolbasz, which is the hot dog that put the sandwich shop on the map for the local Toledo crowd. In 1935, Tony and his wife, Rose, where able to buy the building where the Original Tony Packo's Restaurant now stands. Burt Reynolds was eating at the restaurant in 1972 and when he was asked for an autograph. Reynolds grabbed up a hot dog bun and signed it, starting the "bun signing" tradition. The buns that are signed today are foam replicas of the Packos hot dog bun. It is fun to wander around the restaurant and look at the buns hanging on the walls and seeing which celebrities you recognize.

Port Clinton Lighthouse tour of grounds

After passing by this lighthouse on our many trips to the hardware store, we decided it was time to stop and have a closer look. We enjoyed the stroll through the park, even though the buildings were closed. The sky was blue and there was a pleasant breeze off the waters of Lake Erie. What a lovely day to take a walk along the pathways and enjoy a day along the shore.
